When I opened my studio in East Point, I needed pieces for the walls so I thought, why don’t I put up my own work. Unfortunately working as a commercial artist, my clients kept everything I had been making. These pieces were inspired by me growing up in America where a European standard of beauty is still the norm and rule even in the black community. It caused so much self esteem issues in me, with me always finding something wrong with my appearance. I chose to depict the parts of my body I struggled with loving the most. These pieces are the last you will ever see of its kind. By creating them, I am rejecting the colorism, body shaming, and insecurities I allowed myself to have. My new work will embrace everything about myself that I have fallen in love with.
